Circumcision is not simply a cosmetic procedure performed for hygienic or aesthetic reasons. It removes the most sensitive hence ‘vicious’ part of the genitalia. Its original aim is to reduce the sinful nature of man. Since ancient times paedocircumcision has been used to produce holiness, piousness and submission. Moses and Mohamed are said to have been born without foreskin or aposthic[i] therefore they obtained these virtues at birth.
Religions are fond of circumcision because it generates religiousness and obedience. The good side of this is considered to be the heightening and refinement of spirituality. However, since the improvement is forced it is artificial and the virtue gained is untrue. Actually, circumcision does not remove the sinful nature but only transforms it into other obsessions because it leaves the corresponding pleasure-seeking regions in the brain intact.
Circumcision represses human sexuality. On the negative side it produces sexual, religious, ethnical and national segregation. The taboo that the circumcising and their descendant religions have imposed on sexuality has been inhibiting the comprehension of human emotionality for millennia. The ban keeps human sexuality in a primitive stage and blocks its cultivation. It took nearly two thousand years after Christians dropped circumcision for their civilization to begin reinventing the vital role of sexuality.
A result of supressed sexuality, for instance, is the absence of a proper definition of love such that encompasses all of its forms. Now the word with which we refer to our dearest ones evokes mixed feelings according to the circumstances, personal understanding and experience. The notion of love amalgamates affection, tenderness, passion, sex, possession, friendship and jealousy, liberation and imprisonment, bliss and stupidity, hope and hate.
Polysemy makes it impossible to live on good terms with anyone. Lovers honestly lie when they make declarations of love because everyone puts in the words a meaning of his or her own preference. The ambiguity conveniently allows anyone to come off clear and blameless from the partnership, at least in his own view and encourages irresponsibility. It is conveniently ignorant but the independence and freedom it gives are deceptive. In the long-term the convenience is apparent because the ambiguous meaning prevents the partners from knowing themselves and each other.
People get divorced without even knowing what kept them together; not to speak without knowing whether monogamy comes naturally to them or what type of love they meant. Many people are even proud that love defies definition. Yet others say that jealousy proves love. But we think that the undefined state of love speaks only of ignorance and lack of self-knowledge.
When people who do not know what love is make vows, they commit a crime. Sadly, however, this crime is legalized due to the ubiquity of the convenient ignorance.
The vague attitude toward love and sex may be convenient as its total unrepresentativeness allows arbitrary interpretations. Notwithstanding that blurred thinking reveals a blockage of human reasoning and evolution. The overly generalized notions are irrational and a primitive extremity of cognition.
The highly ambiguous meaning of an important need speaks that its great brain potential is misused. That folly stems from the uncultivated state of human sexuality. The unclear attitude to the topic blurs it and overexaggerates its significance. All of this makes sexuality appear menacing, uncontrollable, unsafe and unclean. The libido remains as unruly as it has probably been in prehistoric people. Nowadays the sexual drive is even more dangerous because of the advanced technologies. The deviated sexuality is the main criminogenic factor. In a vicious circle of logic the suppressed sexuality seemingly proves its own vicious nature.
Some think that it is safer and easier for human sexuality to be suppressed rather than cultivated because most people are primitive. But we suggest the reverse causality. We think that if human mentality is undeveloped it is because the most developed human sensitivity has been persistently and radically suppressed and perverted. The suppression of sexuality has spread it over other compensatory activities, perverted it and made it obsessive. And of course circumcision has a crucial role in the overvaluation and deformation of sexuality.
Paedocircumcision causes a deficit in an essential pleasure and redirects powerful sexual energies. It induces a psychological complex that disseminates erotic obsessions throughout the psyche. It is a type of non-genetic bioengineering of the human mind.
Beside religiousness the Circumcision complex has important psychosocial effects. They inspire the mental attitudes that have shaped the stereotypes of circumcising nationalities such as sexual and general possessiveness or fervent piety. They underlie the oppression of women in the Muslim world, the conservatism and clannishness of the circumcised communities and the closeness and isolation of the circumcising nations. They motivate both the Zionism and the anti-Semitism. Not only has circumcision separated foreskin from penis but states and cultures from each other.
Humans are sexual maniacs which is betrayed in their year-round sexual activity. The suppression of sexuality redirects the fanaticism to other activities and produces various obsessions. We like some of them but are terrified by others. All of them, however, have a common cause: the repressed, deviated, distorted and misused sexuality. If the suppression is inflicted by surgery it has clear-cut physical consequences that cannot be healed but only kept safe by psychiatric treatment.
The unduly developed abstract thought, piety and virtuosity are valued effects of the Circumcision complex. Its lower and more common compensations, however, include sexual possessiveness, greed and fanatical religiousness and are less enjoyable. Both the respected and unwanted traits sail in the same boat as they have the same physical cause and are powered by the same dissatisfaction.
The abstract awe and god-fearing border on religious fanaticism. On the scale of the erotic obsessions with abstraction the exalted intellectual achievements are only a step away from violence. The intellectual amusement that the circumcised supply to natural ones in mixed societies goes around with hate. The devoted religiousness courts terrorism.
